Many
discussions have taken place in the past either formally or informally
about setting up a medium to harness the networking potential of
former MRSM students.
Given the diversity of its membership - a
matrix of campuses, batch years, and socio-eco-political interests
- it has proven to be a very difficult goal to achieve.
In recognising the need to provide a viable
platform to take advantage of this diversity of resources available,
we have established Koperasi Anak Sains MARA (ASMARA) along the
lines and initial ideas as presented herein.
In light of this background, a group of
former students and staff of MRSM have met, deliberated, and moved
forward a common idea that has been crystallizing for many years in
many places: “creating a properly
managed medium to galvanize the wide-ranging networking potential
and resources of former MRSM students & staff.”
Initially working on the idea of a Limited Company,
our study of the pros & cons, and objectives of galvanizing our
individual and wide-ranging strengths, concluded that only a Cooperative
would be able to meet most of these conceptual philosophy and objectives
than any other medium.
The establishment of Our Cooperative is in accordance to the procedures
under the Akta Koperasi 1993. Its principles, among others are voluntary,
open and democratic membership by subscription which require active
participation of its members. The cooperative will be autonomous and
free to conduct business activities for the benefit and financial
gains of its valued members. With equal voting rights, members’
liabilities are limited to one’s shareholding.
The Proposed Name is Koperasi Anak Sains Mara
Berhad (to be referred as “ASMARA”).
